This year, beginning February 17, we welcomed the Year of the Fire Horse — a rare pairing that hasn’t occurred since 1966. The Fire Horse is said to usher in powerful change and meaningful breakthroughs, and it is associated with traits like heart, courage, energy, trust, determination, freedom, leadership, resilience, spirit, gratitude, strength, and legacy.
At ROCK, we couldn’t imagine a better way to celebrate this inspiring year than by honoring 12 of our horses — one each month — highlighting the unique trait each so beautifully embodies.
In June, we are proud to recognize the true embodiment of determination: Sister.
Sister came to us from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, or the TDCJ, with previous experience as a prison horse. Since arriving at ROCK, her determination has allowed her to excel in every role she has stepped into. Sister is lift-trained; she attends horse shows, works with physical therapy clients, participates in community appearances, and serves as a steady source of comfort and confidence for both clients and volunteers.

No matter what job Sister is faced with, she approaches it with a willingness to work and drive to succeed, consistently surpassing expectations. Her determination is matched only by her kindness. Despite being one of the oldest horses in our herd, Sister continues to go strong, thriving in her many roles and proving that age is no barrier to making a difference. She remains one of the most dependable and cherished members of the ROCK herd.

Sister proves that determination can be a powerful tool that can lead to success.
