Barbara & George Brightwell Honored as 2023 Unsung Heroes at Legacy Luncheon

On September 13th, at the Kalahari Convention Center, the Central Texas Community Foundation‘s annual Legacy Luncheon was a testament to the extraordinary impact of ordinary individuals. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the nominees and award recipients for their outstanding contributions. The Round Rock Express was honored with the Nancy Rabb Legacy Award and CASA of Williamson County was honored with the Impact Award.

Barbara & George Brightwell, true beacons of selflessness and leadership, were named the proud recipients of the 2023 Elizabeth Brenenstuhl Unsung Hero Award. Their lives were a living testament to love, grace, education, and philanthropy. Until their passing earlier this year, just two months apart, they dedicated themselves to a life of service.

The award was accepted by ROCK Founder & CEO Dr. Nancy Krenek and Patricia Felder Tranter, who were long-time friends of the Brightwell’s. During her speech, Nancy reflected, “What I observed is that, besides, in the last 25 years, is that nothing was even about George and Barbara. And they would immediately, even now, turn it all back and focus on y’all. I just want to say thank you to the businesses that invest in all of the nonprofits and the community for all of the ways we are all connecting to make a change in this world.” Nancy also shared that George would always finish his emails with this scripture, “Let all that you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14), and his closing salutation was “Courage”.

Over the past 45 years in Williamson County, the Brightwell’s’ tireless efforts were felt through their involvement with numerous agencies, including ROCK Ride On Center for Kids. Their legacy continues to serve as a guiding light for all, showcasing the boundless impact one couple can make when dedicated to the service of others. The Elizabeth Brenenstuhl Unsung Hero Award, a well-deserved recognition, celebrates their exceptional dedication to supporting local non-profits with their gifts and talents.

Congratulations once again to Barbara & George Brightwell for this well-deserved honor. Their legacy will forever inspire us all to strive for the highest ideals of service and selflessness. Thank you to everyone who voted for them and made this recognition possible.
