ROCK hosted its 21st Annual Rodeo Day on May 7, 2020 at the Merlin Hoppe Arena in Georgetown, TX. This special event presented by Megladon, iRex, and John Culbert, is a deeply held tradition to celebrate the achievements of our participants throughout the year.
Normally held over an entire week featuring rodeo-themed games and events, ROCK decided to adapt this year’s event to be a day-long, drive-thru parade for participants and their families to visit the facility, see their horse and staff, and receive their t-shirt and trophy.
ROCK has been closed to the public since mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was eager to find a way to honor Rodeo Week. After Equine Director, Lesley Shedeck, suggested the idea of having participants drive-thru to pick up their trophies, everyone was instantly excited about the idea. Rodeo Week organizer, Olivia Coleman, worked quickly with a small team to pull everything together and make the day a huge success.
From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., over 60 participants and their families had the opportunity to drive around the covered arena, stop and take photos of the horses, and visit with staff from their vehicles. Families were then able to drive through the arena, do a loop around the tractors, and exit the arena to receive a trophy and Rodeo Day t-shirt.
Thank you so much to our event sponsors for helping make this day happen. Megladon has been a sponsor of Rodeo Week since the event was first held in 2000 and was joined by iRex and John Culbert in recent years. It is with their support ROCK is able to host this beloved tradition. We also want to thank our community partner, Pizza Delight, for generously providing lunch to staff.
